I enjoyed this post on the Count Me In! website, which discusses the role of care, trust, and flexibility in feminist MEL. It focusses on feminist activism, and features contributions from former clients Urgent Action Fund Sister Funds. From my experiences of working with them, all UAF organisations have a deep understanding of embedding their communities’ perspectives in their MEL, so when they recommend an approach, I listen.

A feminist approach prioritises partners’ wellbeing and safety – and practically, that also means reporting is light-touch and sensitive to their contexts. UAF for example, does not require grantees to be re-traumatised by discussing threats on their lives or work. As you know, this approach is rare in reporting which may ask grantees to write a case study about a gender-based violence case, without thinking about what that means for the person writing it.
