Here’s a checklist to help you with the differences between a methodology and a method. I use it when designing frameworks and research, and I hope you find it handy too. It contains key components of both, including areas where they’re similar and different.

Think of the methodology as the framework or structure of your research and the methods as the tools to help you get there. The methods are, therefore, more adaptable, especially as you uncover new insights or ideas along the way. But by and large, your methodology should remain relatively intact during the project to help you remain on track and adhere to ethical principles, for example. Think of a methodology as the ‘what’ and ‘why’ and the methods as the ‘who’ and ‘how’.
